Seminar details:
1. Decarbonise your structural hollow section designs (NEW)
This presentation discusses the challenges we all face to create a sustainable future and some of the trade-offs which engineers are inevitably facing. We then focus on the carbon impact of steel and in particular structural hollow sections and how the right choices in design can help to minimise the CO2 footprint of a structure. The information given will help engineers to make best use of the recently issued IStructE guidance for designing low carbon structures.
2. Essentials of Structural Hollow Sections - EN10210, EN10219, EN10204
This talk will cover manufacturing, specification, subgrade selection, certification and traceability of structural hollow sections including the recently launched weathering steel structural hollow section. The talk addresses compliance with the Construction Product Regulations and CE Marking. It gives an overview of the important differences in mechanical properties between fully normalised, hot finished and cold formed sections, which have significant implications for designers.
3. Composite Floor Deck in Construction
The seminar addresses the key issues to be considered when specifying a structural composite floor such as spanning, concrete usage, Health and Safety implications and acoustics. Other topics include FibreFlor in construction, impact of building lifecycle costs, sustainability and environmental impact and case study examples.
4. Structural Roof Deck in Construction
This seminar provides an invaluable insight into the use of structural roof deck and addresses key issues to be considered when specifying a structural roof deck, including load and span considerations, acoustics, cantilevers, penetrations, diaphragm design and construction issues, the latest Eurocode software, case studies, sustainability and environmental impact.
5. Welded Joints in Tubular Steelwork– Eurocode 3 Part 1-8
This presentation discusses the available design guidance for welded joints in tubular steelwork, principally Eurocode 3: EN 1993-1-8:2005. It gives an overview of typical joints and includes consideration of member eccentricity and the effects of geometry on joint strength. It also reflects on fabrication costs of various joint configurations and discusses pre-tender design considerations, such as member validity checks and possible failure modes. An overview of the Tata Steel joint design software is presented.
6. Concrete Filled Hollow Sections - Composite Design – Eurocode 4
This presentation gives an overview of ambient state design for composite concrete filled hollow sections, principally Eurocode 4: BS EN1994-1-1:2004. It goes on to present a method for fire design for externally unprotected composite columns consistent with the general principles of BS EN1994-1-2:2005. The presentation assesses where this form of construction can provide economic, aesthetic solutions and contains case studies on existing buildings. It provides a comparison on cost and practicality between composite columns and traditional steel schemes and also looks at the practicalities of fabrication and erection. An overview of the Tata Steel design software, Firesoft, is presented.
