Trailer and commercial vehicle body manufacturer, Tiger Trailers, has relocated to a new £22M manufacturing facility in Winsford, Cheshire. Design and construction of the new facility, which incorporates a host of energy-efficient systems, was completed in just 12 months.
The construction of the facility has utilised Tata Steel’s Colorcoat® pre-finished steel for the cladding, to create a modern
complex.
The bespoke production and office complex is located on a 20-acre site and includes 15,600m2 of state-of-the-art chassis fabrication, body assembly, paint and final finish facilities.
The offices include a 3D engineering suite, a specialist training facility, and a full height showroom, which is said to be unique among UK trailer manufacturers.
Established in 2014, Tiger Trailers has seen remarkable growth culminating in the move to its new home. The firm manufactures trailers and rigid bodies for some of the transport industry’s leading logistics operators in the UK and Europe.
Interestingly, Tiger Trailers uses Tata Steel’s Coretinium® in the production of some of its trailers and vehicle bodies, and even developed its Lightweight Clearspan Curtainsider Trailer in conjunction with Tata Steel’s Advanced Engineering team, based at the University of Warwick. They worked with Tiger Trailers using finite element analysis to assess design revisions across three design evolutions from the initial product concept.
Using steel components that are twice the strength of the structural steel typically used in trailer chassis construction, but without any additional weight, enabled Tiger Trailers to develop one of the lightest tri-axle Clearspan Curtainsiders available in the UK.
It was important to fulfil the client’s wishes for a building envelope that would protect the structure, look aesthetically pleasing and achieve a short construction programme.
Tiger Trailers Joint Managing Director John Cartwright says:
“Colorcoat® pre-finished steel was chosen with the Confidex® Guarantee as there is a lower cost of ownership because minimal maintenance is needed compared to other products. It was also important to have a product that was durable and could be supplied in the colours we wanted for our new and bespoke facility.”
Tata Steel’s ethos is to provide the market with innovative design solutions, outstanding build quality and personal service that surpasses all other alternative solutions.
Fulfilling all of these aims, project cladding installer UK Waterproofing Solutions used Colorcoat Prisma® in Orion and Sirius to clad the new facility’s external elevations, in order to meet the client’s requirements.
A quantity of Colorcoat HPS200 Ultra® in Goosewing Grey was also installed to clad the building’s roof.
Mr Cartwright adds: “Tata Steel’s Colorcoat® pre-finished steel was used because of the availability of a vast range of colour options, while the ease and speed of installation as well as the quality of product also contributed to our state-of-the-art facility.”
